Overview

Many men and women agonize over what to write in a Valentine's Day card. It can be difficult to strike the right balance between sappy and romantic, lighthearted and serious. Don't try to write the perfect message that says it all, because there really isn't such a thing. Instead, choose a theme or tone and stick with it. Also remember that it's the thought that counts: Sometimes the simplest messages are the most meaningful.

Something Romantic

Write something romantic. While this may seem like an obvious choice, avoid flowery, lengthy statements. Instead, stick with something simple and straightforward, which comes across as more honest than overly romantic drivel. Tell your loved one how much you love him or her, and why. Although you may think that your loved one already knows this, there is something undeniably special about seeing it in print, especially if you hand-write it.

Something Funny

Write something funny. Some people appreciate humor more than others, so make sure that your loved one has a sense of humor before you try this. Create a funny limerick about your first kiss, or write an ode to his nose or other body part. Gentle teasing is fun, but make sure you also include a dash of romance as well. End your silly statements with a declaration of love---large nose and all!

Something Serious

Thank your loved one by writing something serious in his or her card. Maybe he lifted you up when you were depressed, or even took you away from an abusive situation. Maybe you had given up on love until she came along and showed you what it truly means to care more about someone else than you care about yourself. Maybe you simply want to thank your spouse for being the heart of the family and for giving you wonderful children. Whatever the case, turning your Valentine's Day card into a thank you letter is a great way to let your loved one know just how much you care.

Something Sexy

Send your loved one a sexy message by writing a naughty Valentine's Day note. If your loved one is turned on by dirty talk, translate that vice into dirty writing, and leave him a note that is sure to rev up his engine. Tell him what you'd like to do to him, and where. Try leaving a place and time in the message, and get ready to meet him there wearing your sexiest nightie---or nothing at all.
