How to Care for a Nemesia Aromatica Plant

Overview

Nemesia aromatica (Nemesia fruticans) is an extremely fragrant, easy-to-grow annual. It's a great choice to brighten up your garden beds or patio pots. The "Aromatica" series spans the color range, with colors including deep blue, light pink, rose pink, lavender and dark lavender.

Step 1

Plant your nemesia, after all danger of frost has passed, in a spot that receives full sun and has good drainage. Amend the soil with compost or manure.

Step 2

Water daily for the first week, then once a week for the rest of the season. If the weather is particularly dry, you may have to water more often. Mulch heavily to help the plant retain moisture, but do not let the plant's roots sit in water.

Step 3

Use an all-purpose fertilizer or one specifically for flowering annuals. Because nemesia is an annual, liquid fertilizers will work more quickly than the slow-release formulas.

Step 4

Pinch your plant to increase its bushiness. Deadhead frequently to encourage more flowering.
