How to Create Light Rays in Photoshop

Overview

Creating light rays for images in Photoshop isn't a difficult task. Take time to learn the basics of Photoshop and how the tools work, which can be done on your own. You can practice by going to the main menu and using the "Filter" selection. This will let you choose from a variety of different effects. There are also step-by-step online guides for just about anything that can be designed.

Creating Light Rays

Step 1

In the computer open Photoshop. Go to "File" and create a "New" document. Make sure the size is 400 pixels by 400 pixels.

Step 2

In Photoshop's top menu and choose "Filters" to apply the cloud filter. Go to "Filters" again and apply "Mezzotint" with "Fine Dots," which can be found in the drop down menu.

Step 3

In the "Filters" menu, choose "Radial Blur." Where it says Quality choose "Best" and for Blur Method choose "Zoom." Set each at 100.

Step 4

Choose "Radial Blur" twice more from the main menu and create each with different settings. In the first Radial Blur, set the Quality at Best and the Blur Method at Zoom, the same settings as the first Radial Blur. For the second Radial Blur, set the Quality at Best and the Blur Method to Spin.

Step 5

Add a final layer by selecting "Radial Blur" and using the exact settings as in Step 3. Color can be applied by creating a new layer.
