The Norway spruce (Picea abies) achieves the fastest growth of any of the spruce family, reaching 60 feet high with a 25-foot spread at maturity. The Norway spruce's strong branches and dark green needles provide cover for a variety of wildlife, and make the tree useful as a windbreak.
