Although your plants are beautiful on their own, you may want to jazz things up by decorating the plant pot. One method of decorating a plant or flower pot is to use items that already are in your home to embellish the pot. Let kids get involved in choosing materials to recycle and in coming up with their own designs--once their project is complete teach them how to plant the pot and care for the plant to help foster gardening skills..
Sand your terracotta pot if it has any rough spots. Some do, and some aren't that bad. You can sand the whole pot if you want to. You just want the surface to be flat, without any bumps. It doesn't have to be perfectly smooth.
Gather together any items in your home you can use to make your mosaic design. This can be buttons, beads, shells, fake jewels, even coins or little toys.
Wear gloves to work with your ceramic tile grout. Read the directions before you begin using the grout, as some grouts need to be mixed with water.
Get out a knife and spread a thick layer of grout onto the plant pot. Cover every spot going around the outside. You don't need any inside the pot, or on the bottom of the pot.
Press the items you collected into the grout. You can create a pattern with or stick them on randomly. The design is entirely up to you.
Add grout in between the pieces you just attached to the pot so that you can't see the edges of the pieces.
Wet your sponge and then wring out any excess water. Use the wet sponge to wipe off grout from any spot that you did not intend to get it.
Wait for your decorated plant pot to dry before you use it.
