Briggs & Stratton engines are used on all sorts of small lawn and garden equipment like lawn mowers, tillers and snowblowers. When you need to rebuild your Brigs & Stratton engine, make sure you read your owner's manual first as there are many different kinds of engine designs that Briggs & Stratton uses. Also, the part will vary and the owner's manual will tell you what the correct parts are to use.
Unscrew the engine cover with a Phillips screwdriver. Once inside here, you can unbolt the engine pieces with an adjustable wrench. Depending on the engine, the amount of screws and bolts will vary.
Replace the engine gasket, the piece that seals the engine so no leaks happen.
Add a new spark plug. The spark plug will be located on the outer edge of the engine under a black hose. You can pop it out with your hands and place a new one in its place.
Clean the air filter. It will be located under a black rectangle. Unscrew the rectangular box with a Phillips screwdriver. Pop the filter out with your hands. Clean it with some soap and water. Place it back into the slot and reattach the rectangular box.
Add a new oil filter. Look for a large soda can like canister. This is the oil filter. Unscrew the filter with an oil filter wrench. Once it is unscrewed, pull the old oil filter out and place a new one into position. Tighten it with the oil filter wrench.
Rescrew the engine bolts together., then reattach the engine cover.
