How to Make Concrete Look Like Limestone

Hollan Johnson

Concrete is a cheap alternative to natural limestone. However, you can still get the look of natural limestone without the cost. Limestone coatings, made out of crushed limestone, can be used to coat the concrete surface you want to look like real limestone for a fraction of the price of real limestone.

Limestone coatings can be set on top of finished concrete or damp concrete to give your home an extravagant feel.

  1. Mix the limestone coating with the proper amount of water for the amount of the coating you’re going to use. Mix the coating in a bucket or wheelbarrow.

  2. Dampen the concrete surface if it’s already set and rinse off any dirt or debris.

  3. Apply the limestone slurry mixture on top of the concrete. Thin the mixture out until it is between ¼ inch to 1 inch thick, and evenly thick on all areas. Use the trowel to apply the limestone mixture.

  4. Allow the limestone to dry for 24 hours or longer until it is completely set.

  5. Rub the 150- to 200-grit sandpaper on the surface. Polish the limestone until it’s evenly smooth.
