Hayward Pool Products offers a wide range of pool filters, including sand filters, DE filters and cartridge filters. Hayward pool filters are equipped with pressure gauges; when the pressure begins to rise, the filter will begin to be ineffective. It's important to keep the pressure under 10 psi. When the pressure rises over this, it's time to clean the filter.
Turn the power to the pump off by unplugging the electrical cord from the outlet or turning the circuit breaker that controls the pump to "off."
Move the pump handle up and down quickly eight to 10 times.
Open the filter drain valve by turning it to "open" and allow the water and dirt to drain. Once the filter has finished draining, restore power to the pump for about 10 seconds to flush out any remaining dirt or media in the filter tank. Turn the pump off when you're finished.
Close the filter drain valve and start the pump up again. Allow the filter to fill with water. Add filtering media; the amount of media needed is based on the size of your pool, so refer to the owner's manual or side of the media package for exact amounts.
