If you are looking for something distinctive to add to your garden or lawn decor this season, a blue jeans planter may be the perfect project. Using an old pair of blue jeans that you can find inexpensively at a thrift store or rummage sale, some rope and a few other small materials, this planter adds country charm to any yard. Fill with bright annuals and get ready to receive lots of admiring comments.
Hold your flower pots up next to the jeans to see how short to trim the jeans. The flower pots need to fit completely inside the shorts. Trim the legs from the blue jeans to make them into shorts.
Place the two pots into the legs of the blue jean shorts. The pots should fit snugly and each pot should be pushed into a leg of the shorts.
Make a hole every 2 to 3 inches around the waistband of the shorts with the tips of the scissors. Poke the scissors through the denim of the shorts and into the side of the flowerpot.
Insert wire into these holes to keep the blue jeans and the pots fitting snugly together. Twist the wires to secure them and trim any excess with the wire cutters.
Determine how long you want the hanging portion of the planter to be. Cut three pieces of rope that are two times as long as this length. Cut another 18-inch length of rope and set this aside.
Insert a metal craft ring onto each of the three pieces of rope. Position the rings at the center point of the ropes. Insert the ends of one piece of rope into a back blue jean belt loop. Insert the ends of the other two pieces of rope into a front blue jean belt loop. Secure the rope around the belt loops by wiring them.
Fill the pots with soil and plant flowers in the pots.
Place the planter on a hook temporarily while making the hanging loop. Hold the six lengths of rope near the top.
Take the 18-inch length of rope and make a large loop at one end and (this will be the hanging loop). Allow this end of the rope to extend upwards.
Take the other end of the rope and make another smaller loop going the opposite direction of the hanging loop. Now use the remaining rope to wrap around the two loops and down onto the six ropes from the planter. Make the wrapped rope extend approximately 2 to 3 inches onto the planter ropes.
Take the wrapping rope and insert it through the smaller loop, while at the same time pulling on the tail of rope at the top. Pull until the smaller loop tightens into the wrapped rope. Trim any excess rope to finish the hanging loop.
Hang the blue jean planter over a tree branch or from a hook.
