HGTV's Jasmine Roth Adds Outdoor Privacy Without Sacrificing Style
Jasmine Roth, the star of HGTV's "Hidden Potential" and "Help! I Wrecked My House", is an expert at redesigning spaces to make them more practical and stylish. And her work on yards and gardens is no different. Her talent with transforming spaces using seemingly small changes especially shone through in the Season 1 episode of "Hidden Potential" called "Keeping it in the Family". There, Jasmine helped provide privacy for her clients' front yard outdoor living space by creating a fence with tropical vibes and doors that can swing open and closed.
By adding the privacy fence, the home's owners, Lucas and Amanda, can now enjoy meals in their outdoor space, while still having their own secluded oasis. The fence doesn't completely enclose their yard, but it keeps them from being seen from the street. So they still have plenty of cool breezes and light coming through — they just don't have to feel that they're in public while enjoying a picnic or relaxing in their yard.
How to create your own private front yard oasis
You might be surprised how easy it is to add a similar amount of privacy to your own space. While the fence Roth had built is custom-designed, you could achieve a similar effect with a fence with a large gate or a movable feature, like a privacy screen. If you already have a basic fence, you could also upgrade your ordinary chain-link fence to increase privacy and make it more stylish. One great way to increase the privacy of a chain link fence is to add trellises to it. The "tropical" feeling that Amanda immediately noticed upon seeing her new fence is achieved through the combination of the fence's horizontal slats and the shade of wood stain that was used. It's amazing how easily minor details can completely change the style of a feature.
You don't necessarily have to turn your whole front yard into a fenced-in living area, either. Roth intentionally placed the fence so that it creates an outdoor living room behind it, while still leaving a traditional front yard in front of it. Using a fence to create separation between different parts of your yard is a great way to create different garden "rooms". You could even use tall plants to create your privacy fence. Leave room for a gate that opens, and you'll have both the privacy and the openness Roth created.
