The Popular Garden Flower That's Perfect For Growing In Front Yards

Deciding what to plant in a front yard or garden can be a challenge. Not only do you want to find something that grows well in your yard's conditions, but you also want a plant that can make a big impact, wowing passers by and creating a great first impression for visitors. For front yards with plenty of sunshine, one great option is the stunning floribunda rose.

You may have dismissed roses as being too difficult or high maintenance for growing in your front yard, but that's one of the best things about floribunda roses: They're hardier and easier to care for than many other types of roses. Thriving in USDA Hardiness Zones 5 through 10, floribunda roses generally grow to only about 3 feet tall and have a similar width, making them the perfect size for many front yards. One of the main differences between floribunda and grandiflora roses is that floribundas have smaller flowers. Whether you grow just one or two as statement plants, or opt for a mass planting of the roses, floribunda roses are sure to make a massive impact thanks to their abundant blooms.

Caring for floribunda roses

While floribunda roses are far easier to take care of than some of their relatives like hybrid tea roses, that doesn't mean you can neglect the plants completely. In addition to full sun, they also require well-draining soil and benefit from monthly fertilizing during spring and summer. They also require regular watering, especially when temperatures heat up; but, in order to prevent disease, try to avoid getting their leaves and stems wet while doing so. As with most plants, mulch is very beneficial for these roses, as it can help keep temperatures and moisture levels more stable.

Landscaping your front yard with floribunda roses is a great way to have color through spring and summer, but you may want to consider including some evergreen plants alongside them if you want winter interest as well. Thankfully, some varieties of juniper shrubs, including "Sea Green" juniper, thrive in similar conditions and should make great evergreen companions for your roses.
