How to Kill Orchard Grass in Your Lawn

Orchardgrass is a perennial tall-growing type of grass that grows in shade or sun. Orchardgrass grows rapidly, is very hearty and can grow in various types of soil conditions. If Orchardgrass is undesirable in your lawn or garden, eliminate it with a simple white vinegar solution. Using of vinegar to eliminate weeds and grass is common among gardeners because it is environmentally safe and nontoxic. Vinegar is also very effective, usually eliminating unwanted grass and weeds within 24 to 48 hours. Using vinegar to kill orchardgrass is a simple process that can be accomplished with a single trip to the supermarket.

Identify the orchardgrass you wish to eliminate. Orchardgrass is taller grass with thicker stems and sometimes has a fluffy wheat-like stem at the top of the grass blade.

Fill your spray bottle with white vinegar that has not been diluted and set your spray bottle nozzle to open. Expect to use 2 cups of white vinegar for every 1 square foot patch of orchardgrass.

Saturate the orchardgrass with the spray. By using a spray bottle, you are able to target the orchardgrass directly. A small amount of vinegar will not kill other grass in your lawn, but be careful to saturate only the orchardgrass.

Do not rinse after spraying. The orchardgrass will begin to dry up within 30 minutes and should be dead within 48 hours of application. If your orchardgrass does not die within 48 hours, repeat the process.
