How to Kill Army Ants

Army ants are ruled by a queen, defended by soldiers and fed by workers. They have large colonies that continually expand as the queen lays eggs all day and the ants attack other colonies for food. If their foraging has led them to sharing your house, you may be desperately wondering how to kill off the unwanted pests.

Place Terro (a product made from sodium borate and sugar water) around the area where the army ants are feeding. You can spray the area or place small drops on paper. The ants flock to the Terro and consume it. The ants transfer the Terro to their colony to share with other ants, eradicating them all.

Spray the ants and the ant colony with Raid or some other insecticide. These ant-killer sprays contain harmful chemicals, so be careful not to ingest any. Follow the exact instructions on the aerosol can. The ants should die soon after coming into contact with the spray.

Pour apple cider vinegar down the ant colony. Mix a solution of 50 percent apple cider vinegar and 50 percent water. You can add the mix to a spray bottle for use as a nontoxic insecticide and spray the army ants directly.

Use a soap solution to kill the ants. Mix a spray bottle with water (two-thirds) and soap (one-third). You may want to experiment with different varieties of soap, such as Ivory or a more natural soy-based soap. Spray the ants and their ant colony directly.
