How to Clean Inground Pool Steps
Before the swimming season begins, one of the steps to prepare your inground pool for use is cleaning the pool steps. These steps are your family's pathway to fun, and they need to be clean and algae-free. The ideal time to clean the steps is while the pool is drained for the winter. The natural cleaning process outlined here should be safe for steps made of any material.
Mix 1/2 gallon of vinegar with a gallon of hot water in a bucket. This is a general cleaner that will kill germs and help lift away stains, algae and mildew.
Use the scrub brush to apply the vinegar and water mixture to the steps, scrubbing lightly. Apply the mixture liberally.
Sprinkle baking soda on stains and let it sit. The vinegar will react to the baking soda, causing some fizzing. This is a good way to power off stains and dirt without scrubbing endlessly.
After 15 minutes, use the scrub brush to scrub the steps, the baking soda and cleaning mixture to cover the whole area. Baking soda is a natural scouring powder and will clean and freshen the steps. By spreading the mixture around, you are making sure that all the nooks and crannies get clean.
Dump the remaining water and vinegar in the bucket over the steps to rinse. Follow with a bucket of plain water. If there are any stains left, you can make a paste of baking soda and vinegar to scrub trouble spots with.
