A malfunctioning solenoid can cause your Cub Cadet 2135 riding lawn mower's Briggs & Stratton engine to fail to start. To fix an electrical conversion problem, you'll test your solenoid and troubleshoot a couple of related parts that interact with it. Solenoid failure leads to complete lawn mower failure, and that could have a negative impact on the presentability of your lawn. Fortunately, you can test your Cub Cadet 2135 riding lawn mower's solenoid even if you have no special tools or previous experience.
Open the engine hood of your Cub Cadet 2135.
Locate the battery. This will have two wires coming out of either of its sides. There is a red positive wire and a black positive wire. Ensure that both are connected to either side of the Cub Cadet 2135's battery; otherwise, reconnect them using a socket wrench to tighten them over the battery's bolts.
Ensure the other end of the battery's red positive wire is connected to the side of the Cub Cadet 2135's solenoid. Follow the red wire as it leaves the battery and extends back to the solenoid, which is located between the battery and the engine. If the red wire is disconnected or loose, secure it to the solenoid by placing it over the bolt and tightening the bolt by twisting your socket wrench clockwise.
Ensure the wire harness is appropriately attached to the Cub Cadet 2135's solenoid if the mower still won't run. This group of smaller wires extends over the solenoid, and the wires should be directly in contact with the electrical metal conductors on the solenoid. Reposition the wire harness if this is not the case by prying under the wire harness retainment clip with a knife. Pry upward to disengage the clip. Reposition the Cub Cadet 2135's wire harness and push down on the retainment clip to lock it into place.
