With a saltwater pool, swimmers do not have to worry about green hair, itchy eyes or skin problems, or storing potentially harmful chemicals. While pH levels still need to be tested, there is less work involved in maintaining a saltwater pool versus a pool treated with traditional chlorine tablets.

Mechanics and Operation

According to chlorinator manufacturer's specifications, natural non-iodized salt (sodium chloride) is added to the swimming pool water. This salt is comprised of two elements—chlorine and sodium. The saltwater chlorine generator chlorinator is installed within the pool's circulation system and has a hollow cavity that houses an electrolytic cell. When the filter pump is on, it pushes water through the chlorinator's cell, electrifying the salt water, producing a simple, natural form of chlorine.

Chlorine Cycle

This freshly chlorinated water is circulated into the pool so its sanitizing properties can kill bacteria and viruses and prevent algae growth on the bottom and sides of the swimming pool. Additional Chemicals and Maintenance

The saltwater chlorine generator chlorinator is effective with virtually any water supply; however, some water may have high concentrations of minerals requiring the addition of certain pool chemicals to maintain a proper pH balance. In addition, the electrolytic cell may require routine cleaning to prevent the build-up of these minerals for optimal operation.
