Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen, and in this segment, we're going to talk about how to grow lentils. And they're a great bean that is used in so many different ways. Lentils have been used for centuries in cooking, and in the Middle East, they've been used for thousands of years. And they're related to legumes, so they're just like a bean like any other bean. And they're considered a cold climate bean, so if you live in a cold climate, start them right after the first frost by seed in the ground. Or if you live in a warm climate, start them in the winter because they're a plant that should be started when it's cool out. And then they will grow and make a plant that is about one to two feet tall, and then by late summer and even into June, July -- sometimes earlier if you live in a warmer climate -- they'll produce little seed pods. And within those seed pods, there's about two lentils per pod, and you can just take them right out of the pod and use them in your salads or in cooking and in pretty much any way that you want to use them -- in soups. And they're a great, great vegetable for your garden and for your kitchen.
