Hi, this is Grace Fitzpatrick here on behalf of Expert Village. I'm going to talk to you about preventing clogs when doing the dishes. One thing to be careful about washing the dishes is where your food goes. One thing that often happens is that people can be washing some food off the dishes and it would go down into the sieve but it will not quiet make it through. It would sit there and that cup for a while and you would forget about it and eventually it would end up in a drain or perhaps your sieve has big holes in it and the food just goes right down. Well that is actually is quiet a big problem. What would happen is over a long period of time in some cases not so long your sink would become clogged. This is something that happened to me after I used a lot of coffee grounds. It is easy to forget that coffee grounds are actually food. When we rinsed them out say we are rinsing out our french press or something like that coffee grounds easy slips down into the drain. Eventually the coffee ground are building up and they are not just going no where they are becoming a enormous clog and that is a real problem. You also want to be careful of putting grease down the drain. This can/ it is just bad for the pipes it can eventually eat away in your pipes. Something that my mom always use to do is have a little coffee can under the sink so every time we would make something fried she would put the grease in there and eventually just throw all that out. Also, you just want to be aware of where your food is going and always be throwing it out in the trash or if you are thinking about reusing and recycling you might want to try composting.
