Hi, I'm Stan De Freitas, Mr. Green Thumb, for On Gardening. Tomatoes are the number one vegetable in the country. Why, well, because it's easy to grow, and it gives you good production. Everybody likes tomatoes for some of their salads, and other dishes. This tomato, of course, is one that I picked just the other day from my own little earth box, and you, of course, could have them in yours as well. Tomatoes need full sun. If they don't get six hours of bright sun a day, you're not going to get good results. Remember of course, to pick the variety that does best in your area. Some of the varieties are a little bit picky when it comes to nighttime temperature. Yup, nighttime temperature can affect how they flower, and how they produce. If you want the bigger fruited tomatoes, you need to make sure that you have enough warmth at night that they can flower and fruit. Sometimes you'll find some products in your local nursery that tend to help, called blossom set, especially when it's on the cool side. Tomatoes, of course are easy to grow. You may pick out some of the suckers, and make sure of course you've either got little cherries, you've got some of the strawberry types, or some of the large varieties, as well. Tomatoes make a nice addition to the vegetable garden, and you'll be glad that you have them. For On Gardening, I'm Stan De Freitas, Mr. Green Thumb.
