Hi! I'm Mark Sullivan for Expert Village and today we are going to learn how to build a barbecue pit. The next thing you are going to need to do is write your list of parts. The parts you are going to require will be the blocks or bricks. I prefer to do this brick work without mortar. If you can build something without mortar, it will generally last longer because there is no mortar to fail. You will need also some sand or pea gravel for a base on which to set your blocks and then you will need some expanded mesh for the barbecue grate or your grill. We purchased our grill or grate that we will be cooking on. We are going to put our food on this and cook it over the fire. This is number thirteen expanded ste4el mesh. It was actually cheaper to buy a four by eight sheet from an industrial supply house steel yard than it would be to buy a three by three sheet at a local hardware store, so this is a lot cheaper to buy in bulk.
