Hi! I’m Katrina Cameron, a professional organizer and on behalf of Expert Village I’m going to talk to you about purging your closet so you can get it more organized. Certain things that you need to think about when purging your clothes are when was the last time I wore this? Does it really fit me and does it look like a tailored fit on me? We always lose or gain some weight or maybe we want to get something altered. So you need to decide weather you’re getting rid of if for good, donating it or is it going in a box to go to the tailor and actually get it fixed so that it works for you. You need to go through your items and I’ve kind of overhauled this closet already, but you would go through and decide what works, what looks good, what fits, what doesn’t and if you purge then you just take it off the hanger and get rid of it. Then after you’ve done all the purging, what you really want to do is decide how much space do I have because there are all sorts of different hangers that you can buy. For this closet I used a combination of wooden hangers, which really are the most attractive and durable type of hanger. But I also had to use some plastic hangers and the reason why I used those is because they’re narrower so you can fit more and I like to use the rules in organizing in closets. That means just one shirt per hanger. Even if it’s spaghetti strap, you just need one shirt per hanger because otherwise everything is going to get mixed up and end up falling on the floor.
