Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen from vanveenbulbs.com, and in this segment we're going to talk all about installing weed barrier cloth. Now, weed barrier cloth comes in many forms and many shapes, and there's lots of different options. And we always use this geosynthetic material that they use for laying over the gravel when they build new roads because the water goes through it, plus it makes a barrier, and so it lasts longer in the future and it works great in your garden as well. And the reason it works so well is that it doesn't break down, and weeds can't come through it, but water can go back down through it. And it seems to work really well too, because none of the gophers dig through it, and it gives a little bit of a warmth in the winter too, so a lot of our less hardy plants survive the winter a little bit easier cause' they have a little bit of a blanket under them, and it seems to help a lot. So, when you install it there's not a whole lot to it. You can just lay it over gravel or lay it over dirt. Just make sure you make kind of a straight flat surface first before you put it down, and then we've just laid it on top of the gravel here and put compost on top of that, and then we've planted our plants right into the compost. And it's only maybe six inches deep, and it seems to work really well in all areas, whether it's shade or the sun. You can buy all kinds of cloth at your local garden center, but it's you can also go right to the distributors; then you can go online and search any geosynthetic material distributor and you can just search for weed barrier cloth. And a lot of times, by going right to your distributor you can get a better price, especially if you have a large area to cover. It'll last forever, so it's a wonderful addition to your garden.
