I'm Bill Elzey with Showplace Lawns. How do we get rid of Snakes? Well, snakes are one of the things that I just literally detest as well and you hear me talk always about beneficial insects and there are some beneficial snakes. The old rat snake or barn snake, it's got different names, will eat rats. That's sort of beneficial. However, snakes, they just, I don't know, they're just a problem. The best way to get rid of 'em, is to keep your yard clean. Do not have piles of rocks, wood, trash... keep your yard mowed. And I'll be honest with you on this one. When I see the most snakes are in yards that have really tall grass and it doesn't have to be tall. It could only be six or seven inches tall and the snakes are still there in the grass. So keep the yard mowed. Keep it trimmed. Keep it edged. Keep it clean and clear of debris, broken branches, again rocks, piles of dirt, mulch, anything. A good clean neat trimmed yard is going to do you a lot of good in keeping the snakes away. That is the simplest thing to do. Just keep a nice neat clean yard and the snakes will go some place else.
