Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment we are going to talk about how to remove yucca. Yucca is such a beautiful plant. It looks so exotic and has a beautiful white flower but if you have got a batch of them in your yard you know that after 20, 30, 40 years they will just take over and it is so hard to get them out of there but there are some tricks that you can use that will help. First of all I have found whenever I am removing any type of plants from my hard when I want to get rid of them completely and especially, top them off, cut all the greenery off first so all you have is roots because it makes it much easier to get to all the roots and you are not fighting all the growth and you're not getting cut up by all of the leaves because they are kind of sharp so if you cut them back to the ground that's the best thing you can do and then I just take a shovel down the middle and work my way around or even take a drill, an electric drill and dig down and break them apart in any way possible and you can stomp on them and dig them up and just use all of your might and it might take a little bit of time but just work your way through all the roots and the trick is you have got to remove every single root because even the pieces will regenerate. So if you work your way through all of the roots and dig them up and then either compost them or destroy them then you will find that you can plant other plants in that area and if you get really frustrated and you just give up and you decide you cannot get into it, always water it really well because the more water that you give the plant the wetter it is and the easier it is to pull out. So by watering it and keeping it wet you can get it out and if you just give up then put some cloth over it and make a raised bed over the area where the yuccas were and then you don't have to deal with the roots at all and you can enjoy your garden after all.
