I'm Bill Elzey with Showplace Lawns. Let's talk about how to make a compost bin for your home. Compost bins should have an area for air to flow through it on both sides and on the ends and it can be made out of many different materials. This particular one is made from some old palates. With a piece of plywood so we can get in and out of it. You have got two tee posts in the back to make the corner with the palates to make them secure. A concrete block can be used, some posts with some wire mesh can be used. It is not really important what is used just as long as the structure is secure enough to hold the material in and allow air to penetrate through from the sides and the ends. That is the key ingredient, the size does not make any difference. Any size will work whatever you decide and just again as long as air flows from the end and through the sides of course opposite of the top and it holds the material in there you are in fine shape. Lumber, wire mesh, palates, concrete block, any of those things are good material to make a compost bed from.
