Hi, this is Yolanda from VanveenBulbs.com. And in this segment, we're going to learn about how to grow basil. Now basil is one of my favorite herbs in my garden and it's so easy to use when you're cooking. It's so simple, you just take a little leaf right off of it and put it in with some olive oil and you have a nice dressing. Or you can make pesto out of it or add it to some tomato sauce. And my favorite way to use it is put some on a tomato with some basil and a little bit of cheese, it's just so wonderful. But it's really easy to grow in the garden as well. And the easiest way to grow basil is to start it in the spring as soon as the last frost of the year has happened, just put some seeds in the hottest, sunniest spot you can find and plant them a little, just cover them up with one or two inches of dirt and make sure that they're covered. Water them well when the weather gets warmer and they'll come up and grow and you can use the basil all summer long. Just pick off a few leaves as you need them. So they love sunny hot spots in raised beds. Make sure and use good compost or good potting soil and never let them sit in the too wet or too dry. But the great thing about herbs is even if they do die back a little bit because they might get some sun damage or you don't water them for a while, many times the roots survive. So you just trim them back and they'll grow lush again. So basil is a great plant to grow in your garden and its very easy to grow.
