On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Craig Morrell I’m with Landscape Restorations in Miami, Florida. We’re here at Palm Hammock Orchid Estate in Miami, Florida talking about basic gardening. The title of this video is how to garden within your climate and one of the most important things of garden is to find out what will grow for you and what kind of a gardener you are. Here’s a good example, this hofmania, this is hofmania roxburgei is an utterly tropical plant. In Miami this has a tough time growing outside because it’s too cold in the wintertime, which is hard to believe. It’s very difficult to grow this in some place like Texas or Nebraska or even California outer doors. Consequently it would be tough to grow coconuts in those areas as well and yet people try to do so, they always try to grow tulips in Miami and coconuts in Nebraska. Why frustrate yourself? Grow what grows well for you, ask your local experts, you’ll do much better with our garden, you’ll have fewer problems, less frustration and you’ll enjoy your garden that much more.
