I'm Bill Elzey with Showplace lawns. How do we fertilize our lawns? Well, with a fertilizer spreader, and I know that's not funny, but with a fertilizer spreader you need to pay attention to some details. Fill your bin full of your fertilizer. Do not overload it, so it makes it easier to push. Set, the setting so you know how much you're putting out. On the lawn, you want to make sure that you move pretty quickly because you are providing the speed, the faster you walk, the more you will get the fertilizer spread and the more evenly. The slower you walk, you're going to start putting it out too heavy and you do not want that. The second thing you need to pay attention to when you're pushing that spreader, you need to see how far out on each side your material is coming, make a note of it on both sides and line that up with the end of your run, so when you turn around, you know approximately how far out your going, so you can take that direction and line the end of that up with where you had marked it before. You want to be sure that you get and overlap, and not leave a gap in the middle because if you do, you will stripe the lawn. So just be sure you know your distances coming out, get to your end, look at where you had marked it, turn around and make that distance to match and come back. Again, your speed needs to be quick. You don't have to run, but you need to move. Check your distances. Line them up so you over lap it. Do not overload your fertilizer spreader because the heavier it is, the more it will push down and again you won't get the proper distribution. So fill the bin evenly, your speed, and watch where it goes and overlap it. Any fertilizer that you use, that 's the way to do it. And whether you're going across one way or the other that's all you have to do. You don't have to do it both directions. Just once. And you should be fine.
