Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen, and in this segment we're going to talk about how to grow Mondo grass, one of my favorite plants. Now Mondo grass is from Japan, so it does really well in Japanese gardens. Now Mondo grass isn't really a grass at all. It's related to lilies or lily of the valley. It's a beautiful plant. And it's just a root too, so to grow Mondo grass all you need is a part of the plant. And you can separate them so easily, they just break right apart, just like bamboo or any type of grass or lily of the valley does. And as long as you've got a start and some root, it can grow. And the best time to plant your Mondo grass is in the spring or the fall but I found you can plant it year round and it's so hardy it'll grow almost anywhere. It needs full sun and good drainage. So it'll grow well in full deep shade, but even half shade or any area that's got more to it, it'll grow really well. Mondo grass is one of my favorite plants because it grows almost anywhere and it has such a beautiful color to the foliage and they make little lily of the valley type flowers on them too. Then they're just a beautiful, easy plant to grow, so they're just Mondo cool.
