Hi I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb. How do you trim your roses, especially the knock out rose, in the middle of winter season. Well in winter remember it depends on how cold you are getting. If you are in, you know, the southern part of the U.S., maybe you are in Florida, your knock out rose will grow all year long. So you can do some light trimming even during the winter season. But, if you are in a cold place, if you are in Wisconsin or something, well the plants probably de-nuded anyway or you've brought it in to a protective site. Well let's assume in your area your knock out rose is still growing. You can see this one here, it's still growing. But we need to kind of trim it back a little bit, because it is still growing out of bounds. So you want to take this out, take that piece out and kind of keep the overall size of the plant about where we want it to be. If you are going own below freezing in the next day or two, I would probably wait until we have a little bit more temperate area. A little bit warmer temperature. Remember, that it is going to be a nice six or eight inch cut, depending on how far the stem is coming out. Cut it down where the next bud is coming from, you will keep your plants nice and tight. And your roses will look good, even in the middle of winter season. For askmrgreenthumb.com, I'm Stan DeFreitas.
