How to Renovate Dead Spots in a Lawn

I'm Bill Elzey with Showplace Lawns. How to renovate dead spots in the lawn. Well, what type of grass is there, first of all? If it's St. Augustine what you may want to do is work the area up that's bad, remove it and get you some new pieces of sod and lay them in there, get them in there nice and solid, and then cover the area with some compost, over the old grass plus the new grass to give it a covering to help kind of bring that back. If it was a bermuda grass lawn, you might want to dig that area up and throw some bermuda seed in there and get it to start coming back to fill in as well. St. Augustine can also travel over there if that spot was covered with some really good soil and you watered it from a good spot into the new spot to get the runners to cover it. Any of the other grasses of seed of course just work the area, get it nice and loose for a nice seed bed, plant your seed in there and get the seed to germinate, those are about the best ways to renovate any dead areas in the lawn. Using some compost will also help because of the organic matter that it's got to help bring some life back. So use of compost, reseed, re-sod, work the soil up loose to put this in, those are ways of renovating dead spots.
