Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment we're going to talk about when is the best time to start a new lawn. Well we build our new houses or we move into a new development and there's no lawn at all. And half the time, there's just clay. And we get our sod delivered or we try to grass seed onto that clay and nothing happens because there's nothing for that grass to grow into. So before you even consider when the best time to start your seed is or your grass seed, make sure that you've got some good nutrition for your grass, so always add at least four or five inches to at least a foot of compost or potting soil on top of your soil, especially if you have sand or clay. And that way the grass has something to grab onto. So when you start your grass it's pretty hopeless to start it in the middle of summer because it's so dry at night, the grass just fries. Or don't start it in the middle of winter when it's really cold out because your grass will never start. It'll just freeze. The best time to start your grass is in the fall when the nights are still warm but it's starting to cool down and there's some dew on the grass. Always wait 'til the nights when it starts to create some dew. That's the best time to seed your grass of any time 'cause it's the fall, 'cause it has all winter to get established. If you miss the winter and you want to start it in the spring, then go for it then. Make sure and wait 'til the nights aren't freezing and it's a little bit warmer at night and there's still a lot of dew in the air at night so that the grass will grow green and lush immediately. So never start a new lawn in the middle of the summer, in the middle of the winter. Just wait it out a bit and start it in the spring and the fall.
