Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment we're going to talk about how to buy soil amendments. Now we are all obsessed with having good soil and we have our soil tested for pH levels and we talk to experts and they tell us we need to do this or we need to do that to our soil and if we have clay alone we need to rototill it, and mix it in with other compost and that we always need to amend it, we need to add lime, we need to put fertilizers, we need all this stuff. Well this my theory, it's just like us, if we had a good diet of vegetables and fruits and steaks and eggs and milk and the food groups, we wouldn't need vitamins. The same with your soils. You can amend the soil by giving it bulb booster or bone mill or lime it but in the end it's still rotten soil with something else mixed in it, and it's so much easier just to get compost or potting soil delivered and work on top of whatever you have already, 'cause plants do better in raised beds in the end anyway. So you can go to any garden center and get all types of advice, but in the end I still believe that good compost or potting soil is the best soil amendment that you can buy. And whether you mix it in with what you have already or just work on top, you will find just putting a few inches of good topsoil compost or potting soil on top of whatever you have will work its way into the ground and everything will grow just beautifully.
