Uses For Mulch

Hi, I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb. We're at Willow Tree Nursery in Saint Petersburg, Florida. Mulches, uses of mulches. What can you use mulch for? Well, a number of things. We use it around the base of trees, we can use it around hedge rows. You know one of the biggest problems you have is weeds. Weeds come up everywhere. There's probably a million pounds of weeds for every acre and that becomes a problem. What you need to do, by using mulch you can help to conserve your back and your arms and all the other features in your body that wind up being a problem. If you take mulch and put it around your plants you can help conserve moisture and that's important. Everybody wants to conserve moisture. You also want to help your plant grow better. Well, if you keep down those weeds and you keep up your moisture level and you keep up your fertilization level your plant should do better. That's the reason you've always noticed that people who mulch around their plants normally seem to have better results than people who don't. If you do mulch, make sure you keep it away from the very base of your tree or the base of your plant. Sometimes you hold moisture up there and you could have a problem. But, enjoying mulch around your plants, you'll have better results, you'll conserve your water, you'll conserve your fertilizer, and you should get a bigger, healthier plant.
