Basil
Seeds
(Ocimum basilicum)
There is nothing like the rich flavor and aroma of fresh basil, making it a staple in the kitchen herb garden. It can also be grown in pots on a sunny deck, patio, or windowsill.
Life Cycle:
Annual
Height: Up to 24"
Ideal Location: Basil needs lots of sun, and prefers a soil that
is moist but well drained.
How to plant: Plant seeds 1/4" deep and 1" apart in rows
1' apart after all danger of frost has passed. Seeds will emerge in a
week to 10 days, and when seedlings are 2" tall, thin them to 6"
apart. If you prefer you can start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before you
plan to set the plants out.
Maintenance: Pich out the growing tip to encourage a bushier plant
and delay flowering.
