This is the state flower of California, and planted in mass, the effect is breathtaking. The flowers are silky and saucer-shaped, and are great for naturalizing in wildflower areas. This drought-resistant native American wildflower is a perennial, but is usually grown as an annual, although the foliage will usually overwinter in USDA zones 7 to 11. When used as a wildflower, one packet will plant 40 sq. ft.
