Showy Evening
Primrose
(Oenothera
speciosa)
Bushy mounds of light green foliage are covered with lightly fragrant, silky pink flowers from early summer until fall. Flowers are 2" to 3.5" across -- quite large for such a small plant. Once plants are established the display is spectacular. Lady Bird Johnson called Showy Evening Primrose her favorite wildflower.
Don't plant in a small mixed bed since this plant will agressively overtake everything else in the bed. Keep soil slightly moist during germination, but prefers a dry soil once established. Grows well in poor, rocky soils.
