Turkey berry tree

A common name for Mitchella repens, a hardy low-growing, trailing, evergreen perennial native to eastern North America from Nova Scotia to Mexico. It grows to 12 inches long with glossy, dark green opposite leaves, little white funnel-shaped flowers in pairs, and scarlet or white edible berries. Also known as partridge berry. (See Mitchella.) Also a common name for Symphoricarpos orbiculatus, a very hardy shrub native to the eastern and central United States. It has elliptic leaves, small white, bell-shaped flowers, and coral red berries. Also known as coralberry and Indian currant.
