Dunlawton Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens

Port Orange, Florida
United States

This fairly new ten-acre botanical garden boasts a variety of fine collections as well as a natural area for hiking (including the Ivy Lane and the Florida Hammock Trail, a bog trail, and the Audubon Trail). Built on the ruins of a mid-eighteenth-century English sugar mill that was destroyed in the Seminole Indian wars, it is a romantic combination of ruins and gardens. There are collections of camellias and magnolias, a water garden, and orchids in the trees. Daylilies and azaleas are also featured. A xeriscape garden is devoted to plants that grow in very dry climates, and a greenhouse offers garden-grown plants for a small donation. Look for the four stone dinosaurs guarding the pathways.
