Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens

Jacksonville, Florida
United States

This 2 1/2 -acre garden surrounding a fine art museum was begun a century ago at its charming site along the St. Johns River. These are formal gardens replicating the Villa Gamberaia garden in Italy. The Italianate-and English-style design features bulbs and flowering shrubs and evergreens; the best time for a visit to see the flowers and shrubs in bloom is spring. The Cummer Museum art collection features works from ancient Greece to modern times. But the gardens are a period piece, a fine example of the formal gardens of the past.
