How to Make Flower Centerpieces

Instead of buying flower centerpieces to decorate for your next dinner party, make your own for half the cost. Using common canning jars and fresh flowers from your garden, you can create out-of-the ordinary centerpieces that work well for casual indoor dinner parties and outdoor events.

Step 1

Use three to five clean canning jars without lids for your flower vases. The size of the jar you use will depend on the type of flowers you choose for your centerpieces. Use varying size containers for added dimension.

Step 2

Decorate your jars with beaded elastic bracelets, using approximately 15 bracelets for a small jar. Place a bracelet over the outside of the jar and push clear to the bottom edge of the jar. Continue placing bracelets over the outside of the jar so they are one on top of the other, completely covering the jar.

Step 3

Fill the jars with water to within 1 inch of the rim. Cut your flowers to the desired height and place them inside the jars. For smaller canning jars, use flowers such as pansies or violets, and for larger jars, consider roses, tulips or hyacinths.

Step 4

Place a small round mirror in the center of your table and put the flower-filled jars on the mirror. Set small votive candles in holders around the flower vases and light right before your guest arrive.
