Crocuses are planted 5 inches deep in lawns to provide early color. Check the depth before aerating if the bulbs were planted by someone else. Core aeration machines typically extract a plug that is 1-6 inches deep. Choosing a core aeration machine with a shallower extraction depth than 4 inches will help prevent damage to your crocus bulbs.
