How to Make a Topiary Tree

Topiary, the ancient art of shaping trees into cylinder or spherical geometric shapes, can also be created using foam and dried flowers. Topiary trees are becoming a popular way to decorate for special events or to spruce up home decor. The hardest part of making a topiary tree is deciding on the shape and type of flowers that will best fit the area you are decorating.

Step 1

Spray paint the foam cone with green acrylic paint. Cover the cone completely and let dry.

Step 2

Choose any type of dried flowers and cut the stems off at the base of the flowers. Hot glue the flowers onto the cone to cover completely. If desired you can add greenery such as leaves or moss around the flowers or for a special effect add small ball ornaments within the flowers.

Step 3

Cut strips of double sided tape and attach to the bottom of the cone. Set the cone on a small cake plate; push down gently to secure.

Step 4

Add craft moss around the cone to cover the cake plate. If desired scatter some of the dried flowers over the moss that were used to decorate the cone.
