Homemade Insecticide for Aphids

Aphids can be pernicious pests. Even light infestations can attract ants to your garden, and swarms do considerable damage to your plants. But, no matter how bad the infestation, you should avoid commercial pesticides. Their chemicals may render the fruits of your garden inedible, and some may even harm you or your pets. The best organic aphid insecticide is made from tomato leaves, which possess a natural aphid toxin. When sprayed on your plants, this homemade spray will effectively deter aphids without endangering your plants.

Step 1

Use a sharp knife to finely chop the tomato leaves and put them in the bowl.

Step 2

Add two cups of water and allow the mixture to sit overnight.

Step 3

Strain the leaves out of the water.

Step 4

Pour the homemade insecticide into your spray bottle.

Step 5

Add another cup of water.

Step 6

Spray any affected plants with the spray early in the morning or late at night. Take special care to spray the underside of the leaves where aphids hide.

Step 7

Re-apply in one week if necessary.
