Pine bark can be used to make compost. Take precautions so that any bark beetles are destroyed. The pile should be over 200 cubic yards when possible. The compost pile must attain an internal temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit for 4 days. Afterwards, create a new mound with the top 3 inches. Place 3 inches from the original pile onto the new pile. Allow both piles to heat for four more days.
