The Bradford Pear tree (Pyrus calleryanna 'Bradford') is now an unpopular landscape tree due to its inherent structural weakness and short life. Alternative trees that grow quickly and are disease-resistant are the Red Maple, Chinese Elm, Japanese Zelkova, Chinese Pistache, Crab Apple and Japanese Cherry.
