Mulch Needed to Cover a Square Foot

The formula to find the amount of mulch needed is the depth of mulch coverage times the area of the plot. A square foot has an area of 1. Standard mulch depth is 3 inches. Divide by 12 to convert to feet: you need .25 cubic feet of mulch to cover a square foot.
