Preparing a floral arrangement for the holidays is an enjoyable and creative way to express your aesthetic style whatever the time of year. Holiday floral arrangements make elegant centerpieces for special celebrations during Christmas or Hannukah, Easter, Thanksgiving or even the Fourth of July. Making a holiday flower arrangement is a simple process that does not require specialized flower arrangement skills.
Cut a 1-inch horizontal slit at the base of each flower stem. The horizontal cut helps to ensure the flowers receive the water supply they need while in the vase.
Arrange a group of three contrasting flowers of varying colors. For instance, an arrangement for Christmas or Valentine's Day might feature one red rose, one white lily and one red carnation. An Easter centerpiece might use pastel flowers with the lilies, while orange and yellow mums might be used for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Place the grouping on the left hand side of the vase.
Add an additional grouping of three flowers of contrasting colors, and place in the center of the vase.
Add the final grouping of three flowers with contrasting colors to the right hand side of the vase.
Fill in with holiday greenery--small sprigs of holly, cedar or pine at Christmas or fall foliage for Thanksgiving or fresh ferns for Easter--and some baby's breath for texture if needed.
Fill the vase with water that reaches between 5 and 6 inches up the floral stems.
Add a decorative holiday-themed bow or tied ribbon to the center of the vase. Display on a mantle, dining room table centerpiece or present as a gift for friend or family member.
