Flowers are natural, bright, colorful welcoming and easy on the pocket, which is why flower arrangements are a viable alternative to decorating your house on any special occasion. You can use your favorite flowers to make a beautiful centerpiece, gift to someone special or place a few on strategic positions and enjoy all the compliments from your guests. Flexibility involved with flower arrangements is what makes them perfect. You can use dried, silk, plastic or paper flowers if seasonal fresh ones are not easily available.
Select a container for your arrangement, such as a tall vase or flat basket stuffed with floral foam. You can even pick something creative such as a coffee can or colorful pitcher to serve as a container The type of container depends on the budget and individual preference. If using a clear vase, add a layer of colored marbles to it to enhance its appeal.
Hold the flowers outside the container to determine their height, and cut the stems at an angle so they absorb water better and last longer. Cut them to different heights to add visual interest.
Visualize how you want the arrangement to look so you can start adding flowers for arrangement accordingly. Ideally, you should add large flowers in the center, with the smaller ones and foliage in the sides and back.
Spread the tallest flowers for the back of the arrangement in front of you on a worktable. Place the flowers for the front of the arrangement over these, trimming off excess stem length to adjust the height. Hold the arrangement in your hand and add some foliage to the back and sides to make it appear fuller and greener.
Add water into the container until it is two-thirds full. Lower the arrangement into the container carefully, adjusting flowers so they fit carefully.
Decorate your arrangement by wrapping silk ribbon around the container and making a big bow. Sprinkle some glitter over the flowers for a subtle touch of shimmer.
