Sprinkling lemon juice, orange juice or even lemon-lime soda onto apple slices--or soaking apple slices in any of the above--prevents apple slices from browning for anywhere from four to eight hours. The vitamin C in citrus fruits prevents oxidation on a cut apple's surface.
